Every Machine Age Production is licensed under a Creative Commons license. Why? We encourage sharing.

Does this mean we don’t want to be paid for our work? Hell no. It means that we believe that sharing is at the heart of the gaming community. None of us ever would have gotten into the hobby if somebody down the line hadn’t shared with us. A single shared book, a photocopied copy of Vampire: The Masquerade, got me into this hobby. Thanks to that one act of sharing, I’ve spent thousands, I’ve written for that company’s (and many others’) games, and I’ve added my own games to the gaming community. So share. Please. If you like our products, tell people. Show them. Evangelize. And if you really dig what we’re doing, buy something. Remember, we need to pay the bills. If games pay some of those bills, we’ll be more inclined to make more games. If you can’t buy a game, review it on your blog, at DriveThruRPG, RPG.net, or anywhere else. Let us know. We love to hear opinions. Or if you see us at a convention, but a drink!

Here’s a more in-depth explanation of our opinions on “piracy” here at Machine Age Productions.

The most common license we use is detailed below. If we use a more open license, it’ll be detailed in the specific product. I don’t foresee our ever taking a more stringent approach to licensing.

What this means is: You are free to copy, share and remix the contents of this work under the following conditions, 1) that you do so noncommercially (ie: you do not sell it or derivative works,) 2) you attribute Machine Age Productions, 3) you license any other derivative works similarly. In layman’s terms, we would strongly prefer you not make money off our work, and if you share or use it, that you give us credit. We would also like you to share the love. If you make a derivative property, let it become part of the game community. Don’t hoard that shit. If you’re interested in making a commercial property for sale, based on our games, we’re flattered. Simply contact us for permission, we’ll work it out.
